Foshan's furniture industry: the facts and figures (2026)
Foshan, in Guangdong province, is one of China's largest furniture manufacturing clusters. More than 70,000 businesses work in its furniture supply chain, and in 2024 its furniture manufacturing output was about 180 billion yuan, with exports of US$9.8 billion, according to the 21st Century Business Herald. The industry is concentrated in Shunde district, where Longjiang makes furniture and materials and Lecong trades them.
How big is Foshan's furniture industry?
About 180 billion yuan of furniture manufacturing output in 2024, from a cluster of more than 70,000 businesses. The figures below come from Chinese sources. We've kept each one to what it actually measures.
"Output" here is manufacturing output value (产值), which isn't the same thing as sales revenue or profit. The Qianzhan figures come from a commercial research firm rather than a statistics office, so treat them as indicative.

Why do some reports say Foshan's industry is worth a trillion yuan?
Because they're counting something much wider. Several Chinese reports from 2024 describe Foshan's furniture "industry belt" as worth more than a trillion yuan. That figure comes from a logistics white paper and covers the whole chain, including materials, hardware, trade and distribution, not just the factories that make furniture.
The manufacturing figure, about 180 billion yuan in 2024, is the one to use if you want to know how much furniture Foshan makes. If you see a trillion-yuan figure quoted as "furniture production", it's the wrong measure.
Where in Foshan is furniture made?
Mostly in Shunde, one of Foshan's five districts, with more around Nanhai. Two Shunde towns carry official titles from the China National Furniture Association (CNFA), the industry body.
Put simply, Longjiang is where boards, hardware, edge banding and finishes are bought and turned into furniture, and Lecong is where furniture is shown and sold. Nanhai district, including the towns of Jiujiang and Shishan, is also home to many furniture makers.

How does Foshan compare with the rest of China?
Guangdong is China's second-largest furniture-making province, after Zhejiang. That's the ranking by output in the CNFA's 2025 figures. The national picture for 2025 was a difficult year:

Don't divide Foshan's output by the national revenue figure to get a "share": one is output value, the other is revenue, and they're counted differently.

Where does China's furniture go?
The United States is the biggest market, and the UK and Australia are both in the top five. In 2025, according to the CNFA's import and export report:
The top ten destinations together took 55.9% of China's furniture exports. By province, Zhejiang (28.2%) and Guangdong (24.5%) together accounted for more than half.
Two caveats. These are all furniture exports, of which seats are the largest group (43.1%), so they don't tell you how many kitchens are shipped. And kitchen furniture isn't among the top ten export items the report lists.
